“After 25 years of frustration with hearing aids, I'm delighted that Amy Tomlinson has worked a miracle in providing me with the first pair that has ever really been comfortable and improved my hearing enough to make wearing them worthwhile. Amy really listened to me when I explained my hearing difficulties and the problems I've had with hearing aids in the past, and tailored my new hearing aids specifically for me, carefully addressing every issue on my list, and continues to work with me if any fine-tuning or adjustments are needed. Amy Tomlinson has noticeably improved not only my hearing but the quality of my life. Highly recommend. ”

“Had to stop by to get my hearing aid checked, the person at the desk went above and beyond. The service provided by the young lady at the front desk was excellent.”
Eileen R. of Prince George, VA 12/29/2017 Review submitted online
“My only complaint is that they need to allow their customers who need to have a hearing aid checked out due to problems more options for coming in than the 1 hour window in the middle of the day for walk-ins. I just called to try to get an appointment for this and was told that they only schedule appointments for hearing exams. Well, what about your current customers who need help? As I explained to the person who took the call, I wear hearing aids and I WORK. My work schedule does not allow me the freedom to leave to fit into your little 1 hour window for walk-ins. Also, I have done the 1 hour walk-in before and it is so backed up with people doing the same that I was there for about 2 hours, causing me to have to explain at work why I was late. You really need to consider your customers who need to actually schedule an appointment for having an aid checked. I understand you have "policies", but you can always change policies, especially if it is inconvenient for your customers. I also hate being treated as if I am asking for too much to ask to come in some time other that the appointed walk-in time. Are you more concerned with YOUR convenience or your customers? ”

“After purchasing multiple hearing aids from this company we brought in a pair purchased online to be programmed by Dr. Butts. Our dog had eaten a $3000 dollar aid and we found an affordable replacement online. They advertise free reprogramming of hearing aids bought elsewhere and then charged me over $600 to plug in her new hearing aid to her previous settings. It took less than ten minutes and he seemed obviously annoyed we had bought the hearing aid online, like they are only in it for the money. We will take our business elsewhere.”

Official Response from HearingLife - Richmond Forest Hill:
“Dear Jessica, I can understand the frustration and anger of this parent. After forty three years as an audiologist with experience in a physician's private practice, twenty years at a University Medical School and eighteen years in my own practice, I have been frustrated and angered that parents of young children cannot find insurance or government assistance in paying for hearing aids. I hope that everyone reading this will contact their state and federal representative and support legislation that is now in congress to provide support families of children with hearing loss. The frustration that you thought was about the way you purchased the hearing aid for you daughter was really my frustration that I could not duplicate the performance of the hearing aid that I had fitted to her with the aid you got online.
I was relieved that I was able to diagnose the problem on the second visit and achieve a good result. My records indicate that you and your daughter were in our office on two occasions for a period of time that was over one hour. We had to replace a part of the hearing aid that was not appropriate and have guaranteed the part and the service for the next twelve months.
I am sorry about the typographical error on our website that led you to believe we were able to program any hearing aid for free. I am sure that you would agree that we could not stay in business if our patients bought aids online and then came to us for free programming. Our charge represents the cost of having the equipment, knowledge and full time staff to make sure that your daughter receives the best care possible and will have access to support going forward.
Children with hearing loss should have access to safe and effective hearing aids selected, fitted and supported by people trained at the graduate level and licensed as audiologists with offices accessible when problems occur. Only proper legislation requiring insurance companies to provide this care will solve this problem. In the meantime, we are forced to charge for our services in order to maintain the level of care that has served our community for eighteen years. Dr. Frank Butts, retired, Hearing Clinics of Virginia”
