Originally from N.J., in 1991 Jim Markham was employed as a shop Foreman and diesel mechanic, when his hours were suddenly reduced. It was then that he decided to look at a different career path. Jim had an uncle that struggled with his hearing and he was always curious about this. Because of this his father-in-law suggested he look at the hearing aid industry. After extensive research he decided to get his education and become licensed in Hearing Instrument Sciences and the dispensing of hearing aid instruments.
Jim became nationally board certified in hearing instrument sciences in 1997. After working for several companies he noticed that the patients were not the priority, sales were. Over 15 years ago Jim decided to start his own business, Oregon Hearing Centers. Passionate about helping people with their hearing, he feels he is instrumental in helping them get their lives back.
Some things Jim has done in the past that most do not not know is that he has worked on alcohol dragsters and funny cars. He has been officiating high school football for over 19 seasons and coaching girls’ basketball for the past 16 years, currently he is coaching for Redmond High School.
Jim and his wife Ruth have called Oregon their home for over 28 years and have 2 boys who are currently serving in the United States Air Force. Together they do a lot of volunteer work in the community and with their Church community. Jim and Ruth have a passion for the outdoors, they enjoy kayaking, hiking, and snowmobiling.

Who We Are
For over 15 years Oregon Hearing Centers has been helping the people of Salem and Redmond, Oregon hear better. We are dedicated to helping adult patients of all ages to experience an improved quality of life through good hearing health. Our owner, Jim Markham, experienced first hand a need for compassionate, patient-centered hearing healthcare and opened Oregon Hearing Centers so he could help those with hearing loss. He is extremely involved in the Redmond and Salem communities. Jim's commitment to the community and to better hearing health are unmatched.
Our goal is to help the people of Redmond, Salem, and the surrounding communities preserve their hearing health and live life to the fullest.
How We Give Back to Our Community
Jim Markham is committed to giving back to the Redmond and Salem communities. Jim visits living facilities and senior centers every month to provide free hearing screenings. Our goal is to provide affordable and accessible hearing healthcare to everyone.

Hearing care services
We offer hearing tests in Redmond and Salem, OR, for adults of all ages. Additional services at Oregon Hearing Centers:
Your first appointment will be broken into a few parts.
- We will begin with a conversation to get to know you better and understand your current hearing situation.Then we will perform an ear exam by looking at your ear canal and eardrum with an otoscope. The purpose of this step is to determine that the inside of your ears are clean and healthy before we move onto testing.
- The hearing test is quick and easy. You will sit in a booth with a pair of headphones on and listen for a series of sounds. This allows us to assess how well you can hear different frequencies and pitches.
- We will go over the results of your hearing test (which are recorded on your audiogram) and answer any questions you may have.
- If you are a candidate for hearing aids we will go over some options and schedule you for a follow-up visit.
Hearing Aid Fittings - We can expertly fit and program hearing aids to your exact needs. When you select a hearing device, we will fit the aid to your unique ear shape. Hearing aids should fit comfortably yet securely in or around your ear. Depending on the style of hearing aid you choose, we can also create custom fit earmolds for the devices, so you can ensure the perfect fit.
