Dr. Robert A. Faillace is a doctorally trained audiologist who has served the San Diego community for more than 21 years. He is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), and an adjunct professor at San Diego State University.

Dr. Faillace’s commitment to audiology is reflected in the exceptional care he provides to each patient, as well as his ongoing involvement in lectures and community outreach programs for individuals with hearing loss throughout San Diego. He believes that successful hearing rehabilitation extends far beyond fitting hearing aids and must include comprehensive medical management, patient education, and personalized counseling.

This philosophy is evident in every aspect of his practice. Dr. Faillace prioritizes his patients’ hearing health and the quality of care they receive, ensuring each individual is supported throughout their hearing journey.

Dr. Nicholas Faillace has been a valued member of the ChEARS Hearing Center team since 2016. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado at Boulder and completed his Doctor of Audiology degree through the joint program at San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego. His doctoral research focused on evaluating novel stimuli for neurodiagnostic assessment using Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing. He holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Dr. Faillace completed his clinical externship at the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Diego, where he was honored to serve veterans with their hearing healthcare needs. During this time, he gained extensive experience in diagnostic evaluations, tinnitus counseling, hearing aid programming, and vestibular assessments. He is committed to a personalized, patient-centered approach to care, prioritizing each patient’s unique needs to build strong rapport and achieve optimal outcomes. Dr. Faillace believes that successful hearing rehabilitation depends on comprehensive counseling, proper hearing aid care and maintenance, and consistent device use, and he works collaboratively with his patients to ensure the highest standard of care.

Dr. Karen Faillace joins the ChEARS Hearing Center after more than 34 years with Rady Children’s Hospital Audiology. While her primary passion and expertise are in pediatric audiology, she brings extensive experience in diagnostic audiology, hearing aid fittings and programming, advanced hearing technology—including traditional hearing aids and bone conduction devices—and neurophysiology, particularly Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing. Her background also includes key roles on Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Teams, as well as over a decade of experience in intraoperative monitoring. She earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T. Still University/Arizona School of Health Sciences.

Dr. Faillace received both her Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from San Diego State University. She is licensed in the state of California in Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She is able to provide select services using basic sign language and limited Spanish. Dr. Faillace embraces a family-centered approach to hearing healthcare and encourages family involvement throughout the hearing rehabilitation process.
