Dr. Johnson primarily practices as a clinical audiologist at the UNC Hearing and Communication Center (UNC-HCC), a faculty clinic in Chapel Hill. She provides adult diagnostic and aural rehabilitative services, with specialization in hearing and assistive technology. As clinical manager at the UNC-HCC, she oversees daily operation to ensure quality and reliable patient care. With the UNC-HCC serving as the formative training site for UNC’s doctoral students, Dr. Johnson also provides daily clinical education via one-on-one student supervision. Using her expertise in hearing technology. Dr. Johnson teaches the AuD hearing aid courses for first year students. With a commitment to community service, Dr. Johnson can often be found providing hearing presentations and screenings around the Triangle, with a special focus on the aging population.

“Having almost 8 years of experience with UNC Hearing and Communication Center, I can testify to the professionalism, efficiency, effectiveness and pure caring the entire staff demonstrates at all levels of interaction. Dr. Sjoblad's leadership and expertise permeates the staff. Students are well supervised and provided with excellent guidance. Ph.D. staff are great as they interact with patients and students. I have moved from hearing aides with molded ear pieces to the most advanced Phonak Infinio Sphere with soft dome ear pieces. The transition has been flawless. The improvement in my hearing is amazing. The diagnosis of my hearing deficiency/need was explained thoroughly by both Dr. Sjoblad and my student, Robin. Adjustments have evolved as I have become more accustomed to the new device. While the UNC H&CC building shows its age, the level of professional competence reflects the best of modern technology. I also appreciate the geniality of the reception staff. Each person is great at her job, and each person makes every patient feel welcome and comfortable. I have heartily recommended this practice to every friend who needs audiology services, and I will continue to do so with complete confidence that their hearing needs will be met with professional expertise and caring understanding. ”
“I have only good things to say about the audiology team at UNC Hearing and Communication. They're patient, knowledgeable, and thorough. Getting first-time hearing aids optimize is a process that unfolds across a series of visits, with fine-tuning at each successive session. The people at UNC took the time and have the skills to get it right. I highly recommend them.”
“I bought a pair of expensive Phonac rechargeable hearing aids from this outfit. 1. The battery of the left hearing aid failed periodically. 2. Their audiologists could not fix the problem, and once misdiagnosed it . 3. They sent the earphone to Phonac two or three times for repair. No improvements resulted. 4. After a while, I twice requested replacement by another Phonac unit rather than repair. My requests for replacements rather than repair, if actually passed on to Phonac by this outfit, did not result in improvements for a significant length of time. 5. My requests to this outfit for a replacement from another manufacturer resulted in no action. 6. On-line searches about this Phonac device uncovered some really poor reviews. 7. An appeal to the UNC hierarchy inspired a call to me from this outfit promising redress, to be handled by another UNC activity. 8. Have heard nothing since.”
Received 07/11/2024Official Response from UNC Hearing and Communication Center:“Everyone on our team takes great pride in going the extra mile to solve problems for our patients. When it comes to hearing care, it can be tricky. Sometimes there are device issues. Sometimes there are charger issues. Sometimes there are some user issues. And, sometimes there is a combination of any of these issues. We are continuing to work to resolve things for this patient. An extensive 75-minute consultation with the Clinic Director was provided on the same day this review was posted. There is an action plan in place for this patient and they left the appointment on July 3rd with full agreement regarding the proposed action plan. As always, we work to provide excellent patient care for every patient we see. We are confident we will find an acceptable resolution for this patient too.”

The UNC-HCC is part of the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They have been providing the highest level of hearing evaluations and hearing treatment services in the Chapel Hill area for over 50 years. It’s our mission to continually set and raise the standard of hearing health care in the Triangle area while training the next generation of audiologists.
