Dr. Leah Uthe is an Iowa native with a passion for helping people hear their best. She earned both her BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders and her Doctorate in Audiology from the University of South Dakota. Her expertise includes diagnostic hearing testing, hearing aids and protection, tinnitus and aural rehabilitation services.
She is an advocate for hearing health education, and enjoys participating in health fairs events in and around the Des Moines metro area. Dr. Uthe is dedicated to serving her patients and the central Iowa community at Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology Centers family.
Dr. Mary Konneker,
AuD, CCC-A
Audiologist
Licensed doctor of audiology Mary Konneker earned her bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology and her Doctorate of Audiology degree from Illinois State University. Dr. Konneker enjoys seeing the joy in patients when they are able to hear and communicate with their loved ones again.
She experienced in hearing testing, hearing aid technology, neuro-diagnostics, auditory brainstem response testing, vestibular evaluations, and pediatric amplification.
Outside of the office, Dr. Konneker enjoys spending time with her family, kayaking, and taking walks with her dogs.
Massa Atchison
Patient Care Coordinator
Massa Atchison brings over a decade of hearing healthcare experience to the Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology team. As our Patient Care Coordinator, she manages the day to day operations of our offices. Massa's favorite part about her job is interacting with people. Her goal is to ensure that every person who calls or comes into our office has a positive experience. During her free time, Massa enjoys reading, attending hockey games and spending as much time as she can with her family.

Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology Center are a locally owned independent practice offering quality hearing testing hearing aid products and services. Our highly trained staff are available six days a week to assist you with your hearing. We're Better Business Bureau certified; we are a business you can trust and a part of your community.
Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology Center (formerly known as Helping U Hear) is a combination of two practices, Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology Centers and Kayser Hearing Aid and Audiology Center.
Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology Centers were opened by Dr. Sandra Hobson over 30 years ago. As a practice dedicated to providing the most comprehensive hearing services available, Dr. Hobson ensured every patient was treated with utmost care and respect.
Kayser Hearing Aid and Audiology Center was established in 1982 by Dr. Dean Kayser. Their practice's values were rooted in compassionate, patient-centered medical solutions and a trustworthy continuum of care.
To bring our hearing services to even more people in the Des Moines community, Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology Centers and Kayser Hearing combined to form Uthe Hearing Aid and Audiology Centers, LLC.
Now, we can provide even more patients with the hearing healthcare they deserve. With our newly expanded, dedicated team of professionals, we are honored to provide hearing education and services to the people of Des Moines and central Iowa.

Our licensed audiologists provide complete hearing evaluations to determine the type and degree of hearing loss. We also offer second opinions for patients who have received prior hearing aid testing or recommendations.
Hearing Aid Fitting and Programing:
We specialize in selecting, fitting, and programming hearing aids designed for your unique hearing needs and ear shape. Our goal is to ensure comfort, clarity, and improved communication in your everyday life.
Aural Rehabilitation:
Hearing loss can have both communication and psychosocial impacts on a patient. Our audiologists can help reduce hearing loss induced deficits through our training program.
Hearing Aid Cleanings:
Hearing loss affects both communication and confidence. Through customized rehabilitation programs, our audiologists help patients strengthen listening skills and overcome hearing-related challenges.
Tinnitus Management:
If you experience ringing or buzzing in your ears, our team offers tinnitus management solutions using advanced hearing aids with built-in masking technology, along with personalized counseling.

Custom Hearing Protection:
We provide personalized hearing protection that is molded to fit your ears. Options include musician’s plugs, hunter’s plugs, swimmer’s plugs, and ear protection for noisy environments.
Hearing Aid Accessories:
We may certify you for amplified phones and captioned phones, that are often free due to federal/state programs. There are TV devices that connect to your hearing device. Some cell phones also may be paired with certain hearing aids.
Earwax Removal:
Earwax can often build-up in our ears causing a blockage and even temporary hearing problems. We provide safe, professional earwax removal to help restore clear hearing and maintain ear health.

We proudly fit and service top-quality hearing aids from trusted manufacturers, including: Oticon, Phonak, ReSound GN, Signia, Starkey, Unitron, and Widex.
