Meet Melena, A.K.A. Mel, a passionate hearing care professional who’s made quite the journey—from the sunny shores of New Smyrna Beach, FL, to her new home in Massachusetts. A proud 2020 graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!), Mel earned her Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics. During her time here as a Gator, she joined UF’s Speech Perception Lab where her research primarily focused on sound localization. Mel took her skills global in her senior year with an audiology internship at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She worked in local government hospitals, assisted in deaf and oral primary schools, and got hands-on experience in private practice—a life-changing adventure that solidified her passion for hearing health. Mel has received extensive training in private practice, hospitals, and ENT offices. She also has experience as a newborn hearing screener and a hearing conservationist on Ft. Stewart, GA. Mel joined HearingLife in 2023 through the apprenticeship program in South Carolina and finished her training in Connecticut under Dr. Gail Brown, Au.D., CCC-A. Mel is a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist, who proudly follows best practices and is confident in her abilities to provide the best hearing care for those in need. With her warmth and expertise, Mel is dedicated to changing lives, one set of ears at a time. Her goal is to focus on the importance of hearing health for all. Mel is an active member of the International Hearing Society, the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. When she’s not helping people hear their best, you can catch Mel flowing through yoga poses, dominating the pickleball court, or crafting beautiful pottery in her downtime.
