Dr. Dena Riso, the owner of Peninsula Hearing & Balance Center, is a proud San Diego native with more than fifteen years of experience serving individuals with hearing loss. Dedicated to caring for the community she calls home, she has worked in a wide range of healthcare environments, including private practices, hospitals, clinics, and in educational and occupational audiology settings. Dr. Dena is skilled in evaluating each patient’s unique hearing needs, providing personalized solutions for all ages, budgets, lifestyles, and types of hearing loss.
Dena is also very active in the community through the Point Loma Association, the Kiwanis Club, and the Ocean Beach Main Street Association. In her free time she loves to spend time with her husband and their two daughters.
Sarah Hernandez,
AuD
Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Sarah Hernandez is a San Diego native who previously served at PHC from 2014 to 2017 as an audiology assistant before pursuing her Doctorate in Audiology at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona. While completing her studies, she gained extensive clinical experience, including performing diagnostic balance evaluations.
Outside of the office, Dr. Hernandez enjoys outdoor adventures with her husband, Luis, as well as spending quality time with her family and friends.

Tinnitus Management & Treatment Options - Known as buzzing, humming, ringing, or whistling sound in your ears. We offer tinnitus testing which includes:
- Assessing the impact of tinnitus on daily life using a questionnaire
- Pitch matching
- Loudness level testing
If tinnitus is interfering with your daily life, we provide personalized tinnitus treatment options, including advanced hearing aids and targeted tinnitus therapy, designed to reduce ringing and improve your overall hearing comfort.
Hearing Tests - We provide hearing exams for patients ages 4 and up. During the evaluation, we will perform a series of tests, including:

Hearing Aid Counseling - Our patients their friends or family are provided with counseling on how to understand hearing aids and their benefits.

Aural Rehabilitation - We use Lace a computer training to help the brain improve auditory memory to help you better adjust to hearing sounds around you.
Cerumen (earwax) Management - Professional ear cleaning services:

Chronic dizziness, vertigo, or loss of balance we offer vestibular services:
- Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR): Identifies abnormalities of the auditory neural pathways through the level of the brainstem such as an acoustic neuroma.
- Videonystagmography Testing (VNG): Assists our specialists in determining if the patient’s dizziness is caused by inner ear dysfunction, BPPV, or central pathology.
Hearing Protection - Custom fit earplugs and earmolds for optimal hearing protection at any of our offices:
